June 1866

Friday 1st. Charles planted potatoes today. Had a frost this morning.

Saturday 2nd. Warmer today-quite spring like. Charles built fence around hen coop.

Sunday 3rd. A rainy morning-no Sunday School-Went over to Charley's, all of us.

Monday 4th. Warm and rainy still. Charles had help chopping the swale.

Tuesday 5th. Warm and showery all day. Charles worked in shop. C. E. and wife was here.

Wednesday 6th. Still showery and warm. Charles had help logging. Mr. Brown worked. Set turkey eggs this morning. Charles E. and wife was here.

Thursday 7th. Rain and sunshine. clouds and high winds. I went to Elisa's.

Friday 8th. Pleasant and warm. I washed bed clothes. A. Converse was here today.

Saturday 9th. Pleasant, showery at night. Eddy went to see Lucina today.

Sunday 10th. Pleasant and warm. Stayed at home.

Monday 11th. Pleasant. Chas. built fence. I fired log heaps in afternoon. S. D. worked here.

Tuesday 12th. Pleasant. Charles had his sheep sheared. I washed and picked wool.

Wednesday 13th. Very warm. Showery today. I cleaned my wool, picked ----?----, worked in garden tonight. Planted beans, cucumbers. C. went to Adrian.

Thursday 14th. Sent my wool off. Went to Levi Creasy's to sewing bee. Quite showery with thunder. C. plowed for buckwheat.

Friday 15th. Set turkey. Lucina and D. C. was here today. Warm.

Saturday 16th. Went to Erastus Dickey's-fine visit, C. went to Cameron.

Sunday 17th. Rainy Sabbath. Went to Sabbath School.

Monday 18th. Spent the day with Ch. and Lina. Chas. went to Bennetsville.

Tuesday 19th. A cold rainy day and high winds-found a nasty skunk in the hen coop and killed him. Eddy went to Bennetsville after paint.

Wednesday 20th. Commenced painting today. Mr. Kent helpt us.

Thursday 21st. Painted kitchen and bedrooms and floor.

Friday 22nd. Washed carpet and so forth. Chas. helpt me.

Saturday 23rd. Finished up painting and put down carpet. Mrs. Benom was here. C. worked for Hatch.

Sunday 24th. Our bees swarmed today. Very warm.

Monday 25th. I commenced spinning. Spun one run and no more. Warm.

Tuesday 26th. I went over to Charley's. Lina was sick, Eddy sent after Doc.

Wednesday 27th. I washed, ironed, set out cabbage plants-so forth. Heavy shower this eve.

Thursday 28th. Chas. went to Bennetsville. I have had sick headache.

Friday 29th. I went over to Charley's-took Lina a ridding-came home and Chas. worked on ----?----.

Saturday 30th. Baked and cleaned up. Went to Powell's raising-fine time.

July 1866

Sunday 1st. Lucina came home. I went up to C. Brown's to see the sick.

Monday 2nd. I spun. Lucina sent over to Charley's.

Tuesday 3rd. I spun. Lu. came home, finished her dress.

Wednesday 4th. I spun and went visiting to Powell's. Went to C's afterward.

Thursday 5th. Had company, Mrs. Loper, Mrs. Turner called. C. sent to Cameron.

Friday 6th. Doc. Chitendon and wife was here. I spun a little.

Saturday 7th. Had two swarms of bees come out. Lu went to ----?----.

Sunday 8th. I and Eddy went over to Charley's. Rained in the afternoon.

Monday 9th. I spun. Lu went over to Charley's. Martha M----?---- stayed here.

Tuesday 10th. I spun today. Elisa commenced spinning for me. I called to M. Charles went to Bennetsville.

Wednesday 11th. Lucina spun. I washed and baked. Lu went down to Mrs. Travis tonight. I hived a swarm of bees.

Thursday 12th. Very warm. Lu and Elisa spun. I done house work. C. hoed his corn.

Friday 13th. Warm. I went over to C's to carry cultivator. Lu is there today. Done house work and tended chickens.

Saturday 14th. Still warmer. Charles worked in shop. C. Chilson and boys was here.

Sunday 15th. Hot-got beyond warm. I feel awfyl lazy. Did not go to S. S.

Monday 16th. Very warm. The girls spun. I done house work. C. went to Adrian.

Tuesday 17th. Very warm—thunder showers. C. worked in shop. Lu went over to S. C.

Wednesday 18th. C. went to Hornellsville. Mrs. Turner called. I called to C. Brown's. Rain.

Thursday 19th. Mr. Frisbee and wife was here to dinner. I visited M. P.

Friday 20th. A rainy day. Lu had company. C. Hallet and Trowbridge.

Saturday 21st. I spun and went berrying. Made pies. Lu done house work.

Sunday 22nd. Was very warm and pleasant. C. and Lina and S. P. was here.

Monday 23rd. Charles worked over to Charley E's haying. I spun. Pleasant.

Tuesday 24th. C. worked over to Charley's. I went over avisitng Lina.

Wednesday 25th. A shower at noon. Lu went down to Mrs. Church's. C. worked to Charley's.

Thursday 26th. I spun, sewed. Lu came home. C. worked to C. E.

Friday 27th. Finished spinning. Went a berrying.

Saturday 28th. I went to Mat's avisiting. Saw the baby.

Sunday 29th. A very warm day. I got stung on the head—feel bad.

August 1866

Sunday 5th. The past week has been so busy that I have not thought of you, Old Journal. We have had plenty of rain for haying time. Lina came over one day with Charley. He has been here for four days. Luther for 11/2 days. Rastus 1 day. C. went to Adrian Saturday for flour, sugar, fish and so forth. Got me a new dress. George Fairbanks had a daughter.

Sunday 12th. One more week since I wrote anything in you, Old Journal. I have [been] at home all this past week. Charles finished haying Wed. Quite catchy weather for haying. Doc. Chitendon was here Sat. Lina one day, all the company I have had. Lu made my coheader and the others my delaine. C. went to Bennetsville Thursday. Dan Brownell's wife had a son born 9th of August-also Edward Downs a daughter.

Sunday 19th. Another Sunday has come. The last week has passed off much as all have done- some rain, some cold weather. Frost we have heard of but seen none. C. Eaton was here the 15th. Mrs. Powell and Charley was here the 16th-stayed till 17th, had a good visit. C. went to Bennetsville the 13th, to Adrian 17th. I have stayed home the past week, Willie is quite unwell, fear a sick spell with him. Jo. Lockery and wife was here last night. Lucina, Eddy and Miranda went over to the creek avisiting Tuesday night.
